Prone to Lower Back Pain? Here Are 3 Ways to Keep It Away



Those of us who have suffered from any kind of back pain before know how consuming the pain can be. It can be very debilitating and prevent us from enjoying our lives fully. However, lower back pain is not always cause for urgent concern, and is not typically very difficult to treat. The most important thing when dealing with lower back pain is to accurately identify the source.

For the majority of people, back pain is usually related to single incidents that involve overuse, such as sitting for too long, causing strained muscles and compressed vertebrae, or lifting a heavy object, or starting a new or more intensive workout program.

So when thinking about ways to keep yourself free from this type of pain, it is important to locate the cause and then change the way you are doing things.

Here are the three biggest ways you can prevent lower back pain:

1. Don’t sit too much.
Try not to sit for more than one hour at a time. If you work a desk job, take a break every hour or two and walk around a little bit. If you’re traveling, make sure to stretch and move around as much as possible.

2. Learn to lift properly.
There are techniques that can be learned in order to lift heavy objects in the most healthy way possible so that you can avoid injury. The general idea is to lift with your legs and not your back muscles. There are also straps that can be used to help lift heavy objects without hurting your back.

3. Be careful not to overdo it when exercising
Exercise is good, but if you’re starting out from scratch, it is really important to build up your endurance and strength slowly and steadily instead of risking injury by jumping in at full speed too suddenly.

If you’re suffering from back pain, there are several different ways to treat it effectively without necessarily starting out at the doctor. If your pain is mild to moderate and you know for sure it is related to an overuse injury, you can try over the counter medication, as well as careful stretching, exercise and icing the area. However, if your back pain lasts longer than 3 months, it is crucial that you see your physician to determine if there are more serious causes of your pain.
