What if there was one simple thing you could do in 2 minutes each morning that could help strengthen your immune system? What if it was as easy as squeezing half a lemon into a glass of water to start your day?

Lemons have long been known for healing and nourishing properties. Some of them are as follows:

  • They are antiseptic and antiviral, and could play a role in fighting off infections, colds and other illnesses.
  • Lemons are full of vitamin C, which boosts the immune system and keeps skin smooth and wrinkle free.
  • Lemon water can help maintain healthy digestion and elimination, as lemon juice not only has a similar makeup to our body’s digestive juices, but the extra hydration from the water will also aid in smoother elimination.
  • For those with high blood pressure, edema or heart related issues, lemons are a natural diuretic and can help get rid of excess water and salt.
  • Lemons contain flavonoid and limonoid compounds, both of which are anti carcinogenic and may help prevent the spread of cancer.
  • They are high in electrolytes like magnesium, calcium and potassium, and make a great rehydrating drink or a recovery drink after a workout.
  • Lemon juice combined with the extra water may help neutralize and dissolve uric acid in the body. Uric acid can cause problems such as joint pain, gout, kidney stones and inflammation.
  • If all that wasn’t enough to sway you to try it already, drinking lemon water will also help get rid of morning breath and leave your mouth feeling clean and fresh!

If you are convinced to give lemon water a try, please keep this in mind:

Lemons used in restaurants have gotten a bad reputation lately as being contaminated with bacteria and fecal matter. To be safe, skip restaurant lemons and water, and just use your own lemons at home – preferably organic, and always washed well before cutting and juicing.

Because lemon juice is highly acidic and may dissolve tooth enamel if undiluted, it is best consumed diluted with water at a ratio of 1/2 to 1 lemon in a tall glass of water and with a straw. Additionally, warm or room temperature water is best as cold water may be a shock to your digestive system first thing in the morning.

So tomorrow morning, consider reaching for a lemon and a glass of water instead of your usual cup of coffee. You may find yourself not missing the coffee at all!

I’m adding lemons to my grocery list for tomorrow’s shopping. Have uric acid problem and need help to tame it. Glad I read this article. Thanks
